Finished Pattern – Silly Goose!

Such a Silly Goose!

Oh where to start with this one! This is the Silly Goose pattern by Scarlet Creations. decided on a whim to do this one, started at about 4pm Saturday night and finished it at 3am Sunday morning, so uh 11 hours… with dinner in the middle.

Firstly, and this is no criticism on the pattern, but recently a lot of patterns I’ve picked start off looking very….. let’s go with the word phallic shall we. Honestly, this can’t be helped, but when you play the game ‘what am I making?’ With your friends you do start to question your life choices!

This said, the goose body worked up really quickly and I had it done within a few hours. The pattern was clear and understandable and easy to follow.

So body down and it was time to make the bread which goes around its neck and this is where it started to become tricky. I’m relatively good at crochet these days, but the bread caught me out!

Nope! Silly Goose does not approve!

Initially it was smooth sailing until it was time to do the other side of the bread…. Then there was a mixture of ‘why isn’t this the way I think it should be?’ And ‘trust the process.’ Several attempts and frogging later, we had two sides of the bread and the crust to go!

Honestly, the trickiness was probably due to sleep deprivation at this point, and no reflection on the pattern, which is written very well and has some good photos and guides within it. Was probably at the point of needing to stop and sleep, but I can be stubborn when I’ve invented an arbitrary deadline in my head!

All in all, this was a fun little project and perfect for a gift for someone who likes geese. It’s also great for someone who would like to challenge themselves a little and push themselves out of their comfort zone. And if you are not a fan of sewing, it’s also low sew too!

Would highly recommend picking up this pattern and giving it a go!
