Prompted Musings – Crafting and relaxation

How do you relax?

With crafting! When you work a full time job, crafting is often a go to hobby for relaxing.

Spinning!

Spinning bright orange bamboo tops!

Spinning is fantastic if you are looking to zone out and hit zen. It’s especially good if you are in a high anxiety mode. The repetitive simple motions and the rhythmic whirring of the wheel is very good for calming the soul and helping you zone out and calm down. It’s also good for keeping your hands busy when you’re watching long streams.

Crochet!

This is a game we call, guess the crochet object!

Crochet is my go to for an everyday relax and unwind at the end of the day. Keeps my hands busy, stops boredom snacking and you get something fun or useful out of it! As long as the pattern isn’t too complicated, you can get away with watching stuff, if it is, it gives you a good focus for your brain, put on some mood music or an audio book and crochet away!

Sewing!

Guess when these were made!

These days sewing for me really does tend to be on an as needed basis. That said, I really do enjoy it. Watching this flat material be manipulated and sewn together to make something 3D is an awesome sense of achievement. Sewing is absolutely for sticking on an audio book and chilling… that is until you are still seeing that outfit or costume 2 hours before the event (it’s an unwritten rule you shall always be sewing up to the wire! That’s part of the fun, relaxing not so much at that point lol!)

All in all, crafting hobbies are great for relaxing, if you haven’t tried one, really do! It doesn’t have to be complicated like spinning or advanced sewing or crochet. But it can be fun and fulfilling especially when you have made something at the end of it!
