Finished Pattern – Norbert The Gnome

This week, I jumped into a free little pattern to create a Gnome for a friend. Norbert The Gnome by Stella’s Yarn Universe.

Pink is this season’s Red!

For someone looking for a quick and easy little gift for a friend or relative, if they like gnomes, you cannot go wrong with this one!

This is a well written pattern and very easy to follow, the only feedback I would give is it could do with a heading or instruction at the start to let you know you begin with the head. Here was me, happily crocheting away in blue and going ‘why is it making me do a weird bobble bit in the middle!?’ It wasn’t until it tapered back in and told me to change colour I realised what was going on and had to start over. which it must be said was not a huge loss because it works up so quickly I had only lost about 5 minutes or so.

This was another pattern I was working off Ribblr. I have to say, using Ribblr on the computer is much much easier than on your phone (or at least for my workflow) because I’m not the quickest at crochet and I usually have battery conservation in mind with my phone, by the time I have completed one instruction my phone has locked itself and turned the screen off. In order to see the next instruction I have to unlock my phone find where I am in the pattern, mark off the line and then find the next instruction, figure it out, etc etc. Yes ok #firstworldcrochetproblems, but it does add significant time in between rows or rounds. All those 30-60 seconds add up, and your momentum is brought to a screeching halt every time you have to pick up the phone to unlock it. So if you are like me, whatever device you are using, make sure it doesn’t turn off, this will help your flow because you only need to check off the line and move on. It’s much less disruptive.

Anyway, Ribblr observations to one side, the pattern. Can’t say better things about it. The head and body work up quickly and easily, and before too long I had a little bald dude or dudette.

Why yes, those are Axolotl stitch markers!

Hat next and then it was time for the beard. Honestly, this was really easy as well and the instructions come with a nice clear video to watch and was way easier than I was expecting!

And that was it! Done!

Norbert the Gnome is all ready for his new home with my friend!

Honestly, I would absolutely recommend this pattern to any gnome enthusiast. They work up quickly and easily and would be prefect for presents and Christmas. Stuff elf on the shelf, start gifting Gnome in the Home to everyone!
