This was one of those projects which you do on a whim and turns out much better than you expected.
Started on the 10th June this year (2023) it worked up quickly and I was done with it less than 2 weeks later!
the pattern is called Lizard by Jasmin Rasanen from Ravelry, accessed through the mobile App kndt:discover using a blue WI soft and silky yarn with a nice sheen to it.

Once you have got the initial section out of the way the straight forward 12 row repeat is easy to learn and quick to do.
the yarn… It’s a decent price at £4.50 per 100g skein, and at the time of writing is in a 3 for 2 sale, so is worth stocking up on it for the larger projects. It slips nicely on a metal hook (no hook squeek) but it did fray easily and there were times where I found myself adding the twist back into it as the shawl was being made.
This project used 2 and a half skeins (which works nicely into the 3 for 2 if you are interested) using a 4mm hook instead of the advised 5mm in the pattern.
The bulk of the shawl was done within a week. But then disaster struck! (Well I say disaster, it’s more like Sod’s law.) With 5 stitches and one row left I lost my game of yarn chicken. Thankfully I was able to buy another skein at hobbycraft the next day. (And I didn’t in any way come home with 10 more balls of yarn for yet another project I dreamed up…. honest.)

Figured as there was the extra yarn, an extra round of the 12 row repeat couldn’t hurt to make it a little longer and finished the shawl as directed by the pattern.
All that is left is to steam block it, but that’s going to have to wait for another weekend 🙂
All in all, I’m quite pleased with the way it’s turned out, especially as my first wearable! I have the confidence I’ll be able to tackle the black cardigan pattern over at TL Crafts.
Current WIPs June 2023
- A dragon scale tail cover for our lab with happy tail. Own Design (My husband thinks I’m crazy) – Started June 2023
- An orange corner to corner blanket made from single ply hand woven chunky Shetland wool. (This is proving to be a hard slog as there is a lot of twist in the yarn and it wants to do its own thing) – Started May 2023
- A muticoloured hexagon ball (the pieces are all complete with ends woven in, it just needs to be blocked sewn together and stuffed) – started March 2023
- A dragon Easter egg cover. Pattern from knitting and crochet magazine. (Fell out of love with the pattern quickly. It will probably be frogged as I have a different plan for the yarn) – Started March 2023
- A Ba-Bomb (from Mario) dice bag. Own Design. (The main bag is finished, but now the feet need to be created, ran out of steam on this one) – Started February 2023
